Weekend Eve… Again 2016-09-30

Here we are again, Friday Night, it seems to come around so fast, so what are our amazing plans for the weekend, you will be surprised to read that it doesn’t really change that much week on week

We have

  • Washing
  • Housework
  • Food Shopping – Might go tonight and get it out of the way
  • Swimming Lessons
  • Soft Play
  • Library
  • Parcel to pick up
  • Possible Cinema trip in Sunday if there is an autism friendly film on
  • Reading, I am determined to start the 3rd Gunslinger book (stephen king, can highly recommend)

So lots to do and only 2 days to do it all in, I may need a little luck to get it all done, but I am pretty organised and very used to rushing about like a mad woman trying to get round and do everything.

Plus its actually easier on a weekend if we keep busy, if we have things to do he is occupied, staying home and doing nothing isn’t really an option, I go stir crazy and he just stares at the ipad all day, I am trying to avoid this as much as possible.

So here’s to another mad weekend… Milkshake anyone?

Love note  2016-09-30

I just love these little notes from my boy

What colour are Mummy’s Eyes? 2016-09-29

A simple question that my daughter asked my son the other day when they were playing Sims on the laptop.

Like all kids of that age he wanted to make his family out of the sims, so they set about it, ‘what does Mummy’s hair look like?’ she asked him, he happily pointed to hair which is similar to mine

‘How tall is she?, How Fat/Thin is she?’ She asked, again he is happy to point to something like.

‘What does she like to wear?’ no problem at all, he picked out some clothes, and then she asked him

‘What colour eyes does she have?’ and he was stuck, I know he struggles with eye contact but I just assumed that he would be able to answer this.

‘Go and have a look’ she told him,

‘NO!’ he shouted back at her

‘Go on, its fine’ She told him

‘NO!’ he shouted again

‘Go and look’ She said ‘I bet they are blue’ (they’re not)

‘NO!’ he shouted this time starting to get upset

‘Don’t worry’ she said, ‘I will look for you’

He immediately started to calm down.

I know that he struggles with eye contact, but it never occurred to me that he wouldn’t be able to look and see what colour someone else’s eyes are. He was adamant that he wasn’t going to do it, he couldn’t bring himself to even look at me while the discussion was going on.

The Morning Routine 2016-09-28

The morning routine is as important to my son as the night time one is, he has the same routine on a school day and a Saturday, it is more relaxed on a Sunday as we don’t need to be out and about.

He doesn’t usually make any noise when he wakes he normally waits for us to go into him.

Once we go in he jumps out of bed and runs to the loo, and then back to his room to get dressed before going downstairs.

He can dress himself but he struggles with fastens and buttons, we have got him school trousers without a fasten and allow him to leave his t-shirt unbuttoned to prevent any upset if he needs to change at school.

He goes straight into the kitchen and gets his bowl and cup out, he has a Christmas bowl that he uses every day, he gets extremely upset if he isn’t allowed to use this bowl so we just go with it, he has a sports bottle to drink out of, he can drink out of a cup but he refuses to and he can be quite clumsy so we don’t want him to get his drink down him

He has the same cereal every morning and he has milk to drink.

Then its upstairs to get washed and have his teeth brushed before finally being allowed to watch tv or go on the ipad, we don’t allow him to have his ipad or cartoons on the tv until he is ready for school.

We leave for school once Peppa pig has finished on channel 5, I am not sure what we will do if they ever change the times of the tv programs.

Baking.. Coconut Sponge

This weekend we decided to do some baking, K had won a little electric whisk at the school fair and was desperate to give it a try.

I raked through the cupboard and managed to scrape together the ingredients for a coconut sponge, all K really wanted to do was mix the eggs, so I cracked them in a bowl and let him whisk away while I did the rest.

The sponge recipe was very simple and I would normally just shove it all into a bowl together and mix it until it is smooth but given that he wanted to whisk the eggs I mixed the rest together and then let him add the eggs afterwards.

Ingredients where as follows

  • 4 eggs
  • few drops vanilla essence
  • 200g butter (yep I used real butter – the only alternative I had was flora light, please don’t bake with flora light :P)
  • 200g self raising flour
  • 200g caster sugar
  • tsp baking powder
  • 50g coconut
  • Jam for filling
  • Icing Sugar for dusting

Mix it all together in a bowl, put in to two cake trays and cook in a moderate oven for about 20mins, until firm, brown and when you stab it with a knife it comes out clean, spread jam over the bottom sponge, place the top sponge on and dust with icing sugar.

This is so easy and like all kids my lad loves to bake, it means that he can ‘help’ and we can have something worth eating at the end of it.

K loved making this cake, he doesn’t eat cake or biscuits so he hasn’t eaten any of it but he loved the making and that is why we do it with him. Maybe one day we will make something and he will eat it.

Its been a good day today… 2016-09-26

Its been a good day today, even though it is Monday

K got up in a good mood, gave us all cuddles and ate him breakfast without any bother, he went to school happy, my eldest picked him up because we were both working and he ran out and gave her a cuddle.

His teacher said that he has had a really good day, concentrated really hard, worked hard, had a really good Speech and Language session and did his reading without a fuss.

He ate most of his tea, he did his reading and looked at his spellings and has had a bath, he is currently sat paying the sims with my daughter.

Other news is that  my Gran has had her operation, she has had a partial hip replacement and has been on her feet today, she should be home in a few days all being well.

I will be putting him to bed and then going swimming soon, can’t wait for a little relaxing time in the pool.
